it’s a shame
Sunday, July 9th, 2006it’s a shame that zidane had to end his career not as the hero coming home to france and bringing back the world cup, but as a fallen hero who head butted the opponent a few minutes before the last set of over time. during a time when his team and country for whom he came back from retirement for needed him the most, he gets himself red flagged out of the game.
although the team in general is good, he was the only leader left as henry, vieiry and ribery were all on the sideline.
i am so disappointed. i’ve watched this guy from the last time i was in france to now. he made soccer/football exciting for me to watch! i rooted for the team! i even wanted to marry this guy - if he wasn’t already married - and have his children - if he didn’t already have … what? … two or three kids?
i was so looking forward to another goal in the second half of the game. france was playing offensive well and had a good amount of ball possession. i was even inspired to paint something that was world cup 2006ish. like maybe intertwining the two country’s flags together with a referrence to mondrion or something like that. but now, after zidane’s (lack of control?) actions, i was left with the sad, incredulous, empty feeling in the bottom of my stomach. i was no longer inspired. i felt my eyes tear and smile disappear.
now that’s bullshit! he should’ve been the one to accept the trophy and lead his team on to the awards stage and down the champes-elysee.
i will bet $1000 that the italian said something either about zidane’s mom or something really racial. what else can it be? why would he stain the end of a great career??? it has to be something really bad. seeing the slow motion of the head butt was kinda cool though. it reminded me of two elks fighting each other over a female. but rather than butting both their heads, one just head butts the other in the chest.
oh well. it was still an exciting game…. allez les bleus!
